A Little More About DanceBermuda!

The National Dance Foundation of Bermuda has partnered with American Ballet Theatre for the past three years to offer this very special three week international summer intensive to dancers age 8 - 22 yrs. Bermuda is a very upscale, beautiful island that although quite expensive, is certainly well worth living here. Having said that, the Foundation is very, very appreciative of our local sponsors, who allow us to keep the tuition and fees at a very reasonable rate for Bermuda.

The DanceBermuda intensive programme offers three ability levels and a technically challenging curriculum for dancers between the ages of 12 and 22 years, who are prepared for the rigors of a professional programme. The Young Dancers Programme runs simultaneously with the Intensive and provides a curriculum designed for the specific developmental needs of dancers between the ages of 8 and 13 years at two ability levels. ABT faculty will conduct placement classes on the first day of the program. At the end of the program each student will also receive, personalized written assessments from their ABT instructors.

Classes in the intensive programme are held Monday - Friday from 9 am - 6pm and include ballet, pointe, variations, partnering, modern, jazz, Pilates and a variety of one-off classes and activities.  Rehearsals are scheduled every afternoon in preparation for the two final workshop performances, which will be held in the large Ruth Seaton James Auditorium and a studio performance held during the final week.

The intensive programme uses three studios, which all have wood sprung floors and all are approved by ABT. The higher level classes use the two larger studios with marley primarily.

Compared to other intensive programmes, our class sizes are quite small.

Overseas dancers have always said that what they appreciate most about this programme compared to the larger programmes in the States is the personal attention they receive in class and the wonderful time they have when they are not in class! Parents have thanked us for the care we provide for their children and feel that this programme is one of the safest they have experienced.

Overseas students stay in the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, a luxury resort on the Hamilton Harbour. Resident chaperones stay with the students in the hotel and ensure that all of their needs are taken care of. The Foundation has on-call doctors and physios during the three week programme to care for all overseas students and faculty. If a child is accompanied by a parent, who stays with them in the hotel, they are considered a day student.

Our objective in Bermuda is to offer a world-class international summer dance intensive experience for our local and visiting students, which exposes them not only to the respected instructors of ABT and their esteemed associates but also to an international group of dancers and friends. DanceBermuda has proven to be a memorable and sometimes life-changing experience for many of our participants.
